Project includes distribution of 55 thousand masks
Goiânia – Called Fazer o Bem é Essencial (Doing Good is Essential), a campaign by São Salvador Alimentos, which owns the SuperFrango and Boua brands, has a series of collaborative and social actions. The project has already resulted in the making of more than 55 thousand masks, the donation of 9 tons of food, the acquisition of hospital equipment and the creation of a digital platform to value human relationships and solidarity in the fight against the covid-19 pandemic.
In the digital sphere, an online platform has been created with healthy and economical recipes for people to prepare at home with their families. There are already 40 dishes available on the website and also on the social media of the company’s brands. New recipes will be added during the campaign.
The action will also promote the connection between consumers and small local food retailers, such as meal suppliers, to stimulate business and income generation. “We are experiencing a unique moment in human history and companies, more than ever, have to assume the social role of contributing to the communities in which they operate, offering not only quality products but also services and assistance to those most in need,” says Hugo Garrote, Administrative and Financial Director of SSA.
“At SSA, we already have a culture of promoting social services and actions, but the Fazer o Bem é Essencial campaign represents a further step in the purpose of being useful as social agents. The moment is to create bridges to overcome this great challenge together,” explains Garrote.
A survey conducted by the Kantar Ibope Media group, which surveyed 2.5 thousand people in March this year, showed that 77% of respondents expect brands to be useful in what has become “the new daily life” with social isolation. The same survey showed that 75% of consumers believe that brands should inform the public about their efforts to combat the situation.
SSA has implemented 61 measures to prevent the new coronavirus to ensure the safety of its employees, the increase in production and the quality of its products. “We have to guarantee the food safety of the markets where we operate in Brazil and abroad. We are a company where sanitary requirements were and are higher than other industrial sectors, but we have expanded measures as a precaution. Especially for the safety of our more than 7.5 thousand direct and outsourced employees,” says director Hugo Garrote.
Solidarity SSA, in partnership with the city of Itaberaí and the Camisaria Executiva and MM Confecção clothing factories, produced 55 thousand protective fabric masks for free distribution to the entire population of the region, especially the neediest. The food industry bought the material and the clothing factories offered to produce the masks at no cost to the city for distribution. Part of the fabric was also provided by the city of Itaberaí. Part of the material will also be allocated to the almost 8 thousand employees of the company with factories in Itaberaí and Nova Veneza.
“Our concern, first and foremost, is to ensure the supply of food to the population. That’s why we’ve increased production at our factories, always with great caution and expanding sanitary safety measures. But we seek to collaborate more with our community, especially with those who need help the most and have few resources,” says the Administrative and Financial Director of SSA. The city participates in the action by mobilizing seamstresses from Itaberaí for voluntary work.
The company has also donated almost R$ 300,000 to equip public health network hospitals. One of them is the Municipal Hospital of Itaberaí. With the resources, according to municipal secretary Kélia Rosa Assunção, it will be possible to furnish and equip 18 ward beds in the municipal hospital, as well as the nursing station and medical prescription station. “Without donations, it would take even longer for us to be able to provide quality and comfortable care to our population,” says the secretary.
SSA has also donated over 9 tons of food to philanthropic entities such as the Organization of Volunteers of Goiás (OVG), for the fundraising campaign of entities such as the Federation of Industries of the State of Goiás (Fieg), and contributed to the fundraising campaign promoted by artists. In the Friends Live event, held by Villa Mix on the evening of the 20th, the company announced the donation of 5 tons of chicken and received praise from sertanejo musicians Leonardo, Zezé di Camargo and Luciano, and Chitãozinho and Xororó.
With factories in Itaberaí and Nova Veneza, SSA has expanded its production to meet the increased demand for food in Goiás and Brazil during this period of social isolation and the fight against the spread of the new coronavirus (Covid-19) in the country. Despite the increased costs, especially with inputs, the company has not passed on the difference and maintains its prices. With about 8,000 employees and a daily slaughter of around 400,000 birds on average in April, the company serves more than 25,000 customers (wholesalers, supermarkets, etc.) in Brazil and exports to 66 countries.
